Useful information

Description

Castletown House, one of the finest Palladian mansions of Europe, was commissioned by William Conolly (1662-1729), speaker of the Irish House of Commons in Dublin. He entrusted part of the edifice to architect Alessandro Galilei, who was the first to introduce the Palladian style to Ireland. The interior is much later in date, notably the green drawing room, the dining room and the very elegant Pompeiian-style Long Gallery.
