The mathmetician Gaspard Monge taught in the buildings (17C-18C) of this school, which taught the art of fortification. Its students included Lazare Carnot, and Rouget de Lisle, who wrote the French national anthem, La Marseillaise. The prefecture and General Council are now housed here.
