Useful information

Description

The Museo Nacional de Chavín is an essential complement to a visit to one of pre-Columbian Peru's main sites. Through videos and models, this modern museum charts the origins and development of the Chavín culture, as well as the construction of the ceremonial sanctuary. It also includes most of the site's cabezas clavadas: ronde-bosse headstones representing human faces rendered more or less feline. The centrepiece of the site is the Tello Obelisk (2.52m).
