Description

Shiva teaches wisdom, Durga is invincible, Vishnu protects... Munneswaram Temple is one of Sri Lanka's most important sanctuaries devoted to Shiva. It is home to medieval sculpture of the Hindu Pandya who reigned in southern India. The temple is the object of fervent pilgrimages during the full moon in February and late August, when devotees take part in competitions to break open coconuts on the sacred rocks as offerings.
