Ishitani House
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

Ishitani House was once the home of a wealthy timber merchant from the village. The impressive house boasts over 40 rooms richly decorated in ornamental woodwork. Lord Ikeda de Tottori used to stop here when he made the biennial trip to Edo to pledge allegiance to the shogun. The roof is supported by several enormous cedar wood pillars over 13m/42ft high, while to the rear lies an exquisite garden and a small Shinto shrine.
