Description

Set back from the the eastern shore of the small lake of Beira, Gangaramaya temple, in the centre of Colombo, was built in the 19C. The temple is adorned with sculptures of divinities and mythological creatures mingling various artistic influences. A small museum showcases gifts from pilgrims, small and large, such as mounted elephants. Not to be missed is the full moon procession in February (Navam Perahera), led by over 50 elephants.
