Useful information

Description

"Corstopitum" was the site occupied by one of the first Roman forts in the region (AD 79 onwards) prior to Hadrian's Wall and was inhabited until the end of the Roman occupation. Here, visitors can explore the ruins of the fort and the town, which include the foundations of the baths, the barracks, the temple etc. Renovated in 2018, the museum displays one of the most interesting collections of ancient art from every site along the wall: pottery, jewellery (including a very fine gold ring), remnants of armour, altars, funerary steles and statues.
