The Michelin Guide's review
Connecting the walls of an arid canyon, this enormous wall of curved concrete is 55 stories high and boasts a span of one mile across the Columbia. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, the dam provides energy for a powerful hydro-electric plant and is able to irrigate hundreds of thousands of hectares of land. Its reservoir is 152mi long.
