Useful information

Description

Stokesay is the best-preserved example of a 13C fortified manor house. The ceiling of the hall, with its curved beams, was built by Lawrence, a wool merchant, around 1283. The bedroom on the upper floor contains a fine stone chimney and spy holes for seeing what was going on in the hall. The decoration, including a Flemish style chimney shelf, dates from the 17C.
