Located near Despotovac, the impressive Orthodox Manasija Monastery was built between 1406 and 1418 by the despot Stefan Lazarević to house his burial. The richly decorated complex is surrounded by a wide wall that has 11 towers and a door adorned with the Holy Trinity. It could not repel the attacks of the Turks who burned it down twice in the 15C. The presbytery was almost completely destroyed when the powder stored here exploded during the Austrian occupation.
