The Demilitarised Zone (DMZ)
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

The Geneva Accords signed on 20 July 1954 between France and Vietnam established a provisional demarcation line between North and South Vietnam at the 17th parallel, not far from Dong Ha. They also established a demilitarised zone, to the south of which the Americans built an electronic fence in 1967. Unexploded landmines remain in the ground in this region and still occasionally cause serious injury to local inhabitants.
