Useful information

Description

In the early 13C, the Archbishop of Caithness, Gilbert De Moravia (1222-1245), chose Dornoch as the episcopal seat and decided to build a cathedral on a site occupied by a Celtic community since the 6C. The rather heavy-looking building is dominated by a squat square tower and ornate spire. The stained glass was the work of 19C-20C master glassworkers, such as Christopher Whall (1849-1924) and William Morris (1834-1896).
