Useful information

Description

College Green used to be Hoggen Green, both an old Viking burial ground (haugen) and forum (thengmote). A statue of Henry Grattan (1849) by John Foley stands at the centre, along with a modern metal sculpture by Edward Delaney commemorating Thomas Davis (1814-45), poet, founder of The Nation and head of the Young Ireland movement. Nowadays, traffic has invaded the crossroads, but plans to pedestrianise are being studied.
