The Green Guide

Useful information

The moor spreads over 692km² of land between the boundary with North Devon and Somerset, providing sanctuary to sheep and wild ponies. Blue moor-grass, bracken or heather ripple across the ridges of Brendon Hills as far as the eye can see, while to the north lies the former Royal Forest of Exmoor. The rugged coastline overlooking the Bristol Channel can be seen from the towns of Lynton and Lynmouth. Dunster, the villages of Dulverton, Winsford and Porlock, Tarr Steps Bridge and the superb view from Dunkery Beacon are all worthy of mention.
