This particularly well-preserved castle dates from the 13C. Abandoned in the 16C, it never had to prove the effectiveness of its unusual defensive system founded on outcrops intended to counter the effects of cannon balls, extremely thick walls (the Double tower has walls from 5 to 6m thick) and a tunnel designed to enable the troops to rapidly move around the ramparts. A tour of the castle includes the various towers, particularly the Double tower, overlooking the Sèvre Valley.
