Laguna Toro, a lovely glacial lagoon, is ideal for daytrips. It leads to Paso del Viento (1,500m/4,900ft), a pass that leads to the Patagonian ice cap. Departures leave from the office of Parque Nacional Los Glaciares at El Chaltén, where you must first register, because although not technically difficult, the hike is long and requires spending a night on the site (no charge for camping). Allow 7hr, 39km/18mi return and a 500m/1,640ft climb.
