Useful information

Description

This valley is home to a series of reservoirs built from 1892 onwards to supply Birmingham with water. The most recent dam, Claerwen, was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1952. The design of the dams has not spoilt the landscape of this extensive area (180km2), which is fully deserving of its nickname of the "Welsh Lake District".
