Not far from the border with the US, spanning Alberta and Saskatchewan, Cypress Hills rise up out of a vast semi-arid plain covered in short grass. Riddled with ravines, lakes and countless rivers and streams, these low-lying green hills are topped with twisted pines that the First Nations people used to make their tipis. The site is also ranked among the world's largest Dark Sky Preserves and features its own observatory.
