The geological formations of Flinders Ranges National Park are simply spectacular. Seen from below, red quartzite cliffs form an impregnable wall standing over 500m tall. From the air, you can take in the size of this vast natural amphitheatre (80km²) surrounded by deep gorges and peaks, including St Mary Peak, the highest point of the chain at 1 170m. Since time immemorial, Ikara has been a key Aboriginal ceremonial site, hence the name, which means "meeting place".
