Useful information

Description

The evolution of the Texas ranching industry is portrayed in this museum, west of Sundance Square. A 14min multimedia show introduces ranch life; interactive exhibits allow "interviews" of 19C sheriffs and rustlers, ranch hands and ranch wives. Collections of saddles, spurs and branding irons represent cattlemen from Stephen F. Austin and Lyndon Johnson to actor John Wayne and baseball star Nolan Ryan. Plans call for the museum to relocate to the Cultural District's new Western Heritage Center by 2004. On the south side of downtown, famed architect Philip Johnson has turned a vacant four-acre lot into the Fort Worth Water Gardens, a delightful collection of brick-lined fountains, ponds, gardens and picnic alcoves.
