Useful information

Description

Built on the foundations of Frankfurt's old Jewish ghetto, this small museum (an annexe to the Jewish Museum) offers an excellent introduction to the creation in 1460 of what was one of the largest Jewish ghettos in Europe, once home to up to 3 000 inhabitants. After the law which forced Jews to live in the ghetto was abolished in 1811, the district's inhabitants gradually moved elsewhere in the city. Abandoned and in ruins, the ghetto was destroyed in the late 19C.
