The paintings (1880) of the monastery of Purvarama of Kataluva, built in 1840, brilliantly uphold the educational and narrative tradition of Buddhist art. Here they chart the arrival of the British to the island. A genuine pictorial, chromatic and iconographic masterpiece, and a remarkable use of architecture.
