Lake Geneva, likened to a giant blue comet, of which Geneva is the star, is the heart and soul of the city. In addition to an outstanding site, the lake is responsible for its mild climate, economic development and has been its main tourist attraction for the last 200 years. Since the late 19C, wealthy Europeans have chosen its shores to build their mansions. The lake is part and parcel of Geneva's daily life and where they spend a large portion of their free time.
