Buddhism imported from China had a heavy influence on the Silla Kingdom and it is from this period that Jikji-sa dates. Come and admire the superb ornamentation of its 20 or so buildings, of which there were originally 40. The 15C hall of a thousand Buddhas stands opposite Birojeon, a small 9C stone pagoda, home to a triptych of huge silk canvas paintings (1744). The latter are outstanding both for the detail of expression and their vivid use of colour.
