Useful information

Description

Inaugurated in 1856, the Teatro Degollado is a masterpiece of neo-Classical architecture. It looks like an Italian temple with its capital supported by a row of Doric columns, and a pediment decorated with an allegory of the muses. The interior, in the French style, contains a ceiling illustrating the fourth canto of The Divine Comedy by Dante. On the eastern façade (go around the back of the theatre), the Fuente de la Fundación by Manuel Zamarripa, a 3m-high and 21m-long bronze frieze, recounts the founding of the city.
