Useful information

Description

Built on the site of the Valle de los Caídos, this basilica carved out of granite stone is both austere and grandiose. Of monumental proportions (the nave is 262m long and the cupola is 42m in diameter), it houses the funerary stones of José Antonio Primo de Rivera, founder of the Falangist Party, and of General Franco, together with the coffins and remains of 40,000 soldiers and civilians who died during the Civil War. Note the Pietà on the door by Juan de Ávalos and the beautiful wooden Christ by sculptor Beovides.
