A lovely example of contemporary religious architecture, the church celebrates the archipelago's maritime way of life. From the outside the building resembles a scallop shell; the interior abounds in nautical symbolism, including porthole windows, an altar and pulpit evoking a breakwater, and recessed Stations of the Cross scattered across the wall in a wave pattern. The church's design, by Jean-Claude Leclerc, is reminiscent of the Ronchamps chapel in eastern France by the renowned 20C architect Le Corbusier.
