Along the waterfront, you will come to Konak Square, a huge forecourt battered by the wind and fronted by modern buildings. Standing opposite the city hall is the emblem of Izmir, the white marble clock tower (Saat Kulesi), built in 1901. A fine testimonial of Ottoman Smyrna.
