The Monastery of the Transfiguration of Our Saviour, founded in the 12C and surrounded by powerful walls in the 16C, stands in the heart of the Strelka (the arrow), Yaroslavl's old quarter stretching out at the confluence of the Volga and Kotorosl Rivers. Past the Gate admire the bell tower known for its delightful chimes, as well as the Cathedral of the Transfiguration with its gilded domes rising up to the sky.
