Thompson Canyon
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

Upon leaving Fraser Valley, the Trans-Canada Highway and two railways head into the rocky, steep-sided Thompson Canyon. The road snakes alongside the water's edge or hugs the hillside. The valley then widens out into semi-arid hills littered with sage scrub. Irrigation means that crops can sometimes be grown here, on terraces. Visit Kamloops, where you can learn more about the Shuswap (or Secwepemc) people, before heading to Shuswap Lake, the source of the Thompson River.
