Useful information

Description

The history of Mattancherry Palace is indicative of the changing political history of the Kochi peninsula. Built by the Portuguese in 1557, and subsequently taken by the Dutch, the palace later became the residence of the Rajah. The building houses frescoes illustrating scenes from the Ramayana, as well as erotic paintings depicting the loves of Krishna.
