Monjusen-ji
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

This temple was erected in 648 to honour the bodhisattva Monju, the "mother of wisdom". The faithful come here to pray for the good health and education of their children. The 300-step climb takes place in several stages, amidst a landscape of steep cliffs. The first halt is in front of a huge gate embellished by two engraved bells. The main building, nestled in greenery at the foot of the rocky cliff, is heralded by a millennia-old zelkova. A precious Monju bronze statuette is housed inside.
