With elegant pepperpot-roofed towers, the 15C château de Val has since the construction of the Bort dam occupied a particularly picturesque site. Sited on a rocky islet, its only link with dry land today is a narrow causeway. Inside there are fine staircases and two magnificent Renaissance chmineys. The first floor is the backdrop each year for a contemporary art exhibition. In summer, the castle lights up at dusk, and seems straight out of a fairytale.
