Le Kef and its surrounding hills, which are arid in summer but covered in vegetation after rain, form an attractive panorama which can be admired from the top of the kasbah. This fortified structure, built by the Ottomans in the 17C and comprising a small and large fort, is today used to host cultural events. The "Turkish mosque" and old prison serve as reminder of the original military role of this fortress, which housed the garrisons of Maréchal Juin during the Second World War.
