Useful information

Description

Nostell Priory is a Palladian mansion. It was built in 1733 by James Paine, then only 19-years-old. The house is in piano nobile design, with all the main rooms being on the one floor apporached by an external flight of steps. The State Rooms are magnificent. Thomas Chippendale (1718-79), the talented cabinetmaker, designed furniture especially for the house. The Library Table and the green and gold Chinoiserie furniture of the State Bedroom are some of his finest pieces.
