Useful information

Description

This neo-Gothic castle, built in 1867 by a rich Englishman by the name of Mitchell Henry for his Irish wife, was very modern for its time, boasting heated greenhouses and hydro-electricity. Edward VII was a guest here in 1903. The castle now houses a community of Benedictine nuns. Although the buildings are quickly visited, the surrounding parkland offers superb walks both in and around the abbey.
