Useful information

Description

Founded in 1123, at the time of the Plantagenets, it was originally part of an Augustine Priory that served the neighbouring hospital. A 13C arcade inserted under a half-timbered house of the Elizabethan era provides access to the Church where Hogarth was baptised in 1697 (15C baptismal fonts). The vessel's surround is Romanesque.Inside, the 12C chancel has a sober majesty and its upper part was reworked in the Gothic perpendicular style in 1405.
