Useful information

Description

Guildhall (not to be confused with London's City Hall) is the site of the City of London Corporation. The early-15C building underwent major renovations after the Great Fire of London in 1666 and the Second World War. Excavations revealed that a Roman amphitheatre once stood here; remains of the medieval Jewish area, as well as the Guildhall's chapel were also unearthed. Lying beneath the Grand Hall is the crypt, which, along with the porch, is the only actual vestige of the original building.
