Useful information

Description

The current building dates from 1715, the wooden barrel vault rests on four pillars made from tree trunks carved into thin columns. The garlands decorating the altarpiece are by Grinling Gibbons. The communion table and the two bishop's thrones were carved from wood of the Téméraire, a ship that survived the Battle of Trafalgar. The church has close ties with the Royal Navy and even flies the naval flag, the White Ensign. The captain of the Mayflower is buried in the cemetery.
