Description
Flanked by majestic classical facades skirted with columns and pillars, Pall Mall is named after the 17C french game «paille-maille» which originated in Italy and which roughly equates to the british game of croquet requiring a ball (paille, from the Italian palla) and a mallet (maille). The world's first hydrogen gas lamps were installed in Pall Mall in 1807.
