Useful information

Description

Although many artists have lived in this district, only the residence of the writer and historian Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881), nicknamed the "wise man of Chelsea", is open to the public. This modest Queen Ann style house has retained its period furniture and is also home to books, manuscripts, paintings and other personal possessions which once belonged to Carlyle and his wife Jane.
