Useful information

Description

It is thought that Danes were previously buried on this spot, where the present church was built by Wren in 1682. The belfry refitted by Gibbs in 1719 has some similarities with St Mary's. Damaged by fire in 1941, the church was restored between 1955 and 1958 under the auspices of the Royal Air Force. It is now the RAF's official church, as 735 shields of various units embedded in the floor testify. The church is renowned for its peel of bells.
