Established in 1957 under the Treaty of Rome, the European Investment Bank (BEI) was erected on the Kirchberg Plateau in 1973. It was extended twice: in the 1990s, then in 2008. The structure, designed by German agency Ingenhoven, renowned for its "green" architectural designs, meets the highest standards of environmental quality.
