Since 1933, the digs at Fourvière have enabled archaeologists to unearth more ancient public edifices, which are presented in the park, in particular a Roman theatre built at the time of Augustus, the oldest in France and an odeon, whose refined setting was frequented by the elite. The site is now the venue of a very popular summer festival: the Nuits de Fourvière.
