Around Meiringen, Planplatten is a choice base for practising sports such as paragliding and hang-gliding. Above all, it is an exceptional starting point for hikes of all levels of difficulty. Hikers who are moderately fit will settle for seeing the lakes Tannensee and Melchsee (allow for 5hr of easy walking). Those made of sterner stuff will push on as far as Hochstollen, a trail that is physically demanding but that rewards your efforts with grandiose panoramic views.
