Description

The village of Moni is the base camp of Kelimutu, a volcano steeped in legend and with three lakes; it is designated a national park. The crest of the craters (30min on foot) offers a first-rate viewpoint over the forested slopes of Kelimutu, Mt Egon, Keli Bara ("White Mountain") and, of course, the peaceful waters of the lakes glinting with hypnotising hues. The colours are doubtless at their most beautiful in the late morning, magnifying these natural splendours.
