park: 7am-6.30pm (9.30pm in summer); Villa: daily except Mon 10am-7pm
This vast park is home to a rose garden, a small theatre, a chapel, and, to the north, the famous race track on which the Monza Formula 1 Grand Prix is held every year. The park extends behind a grandiose neo-Classical building, the Villa Reale, which was a summer residence of the kings of Italy until the tragic assassination of King Umberto I by the anarchist Gaetano Bresci on 20 July 1900 just a few metres from the palace. Now fully restored, the villa hosts temporary exhibitions and is open to the public.
