Known as the "Versailles of Moscow", the Kuskovo Estate-Museum was a favourite venue during the reign of Catherine II, whose Court enjoyed the sumptuous parties held here by the Shremetyev family. Set in a vast French-style park, the palace (1769-1775) boasts a Classical-style façade, surprisingly made of wood rather than stone (and covered with trompe l'oeil imitating stone!). The park also contains an Orangerie, a former ballroom turned into a Ceramics Museum, and a rocaille grotto.
