Muong Khuong, a mountain village accessible via a two-hour climb up a gravel road from Ban Lau, comes to life on Sunday, which is market day. Beyond Muong Khuong, the RN 4D continues into a military-controlled zone and tourists must turn back. The village is set in an attractive landscape of rocky peaks, terraced rice fields and tea plantations.
