The Château de Murol is depicted by a fortified outer wall, a central castle built on a basalt base 15m/50ft thick, a keep, several towers and a Renaissance edifice. It calls to mind the harsh lords of Chambe and Murol, but also a 20C group of painters, who favoured the banks of the Couze, and were known as the École de Murol. The castle has undergone significant refurbishment and is now the scene of interesting guided tours and visits.
